Purple Dot Motorsport

The Team

Tim established the Purple Dot brand in 2016 and the Purple Dot BMW Walkenhorst programme was initially created to help drivers gain their permit A licence. Now entering its sixth year, the partnership between Purple Dot and Walkenhorst has proved to be very successful.

The Purple Dot BMW competes in the NLS Championship at the legendary Nürburgring-Nordschleife and is run by Walkenhorst Racing, a family-run business with years of experience in the NLS. Walkenhorst are a factory supported team, running test and race programmes on behalf of BMW alongside preparing their own GT3 M6 cars in the top SP9 category, often using factory BMW drivers with factory tyre development programmes. This ensures that BMW engineers are always working closely with the team and making sure any drivers in our Purple Dot car have an excellent comparison to the factory drivers.

Back in 2018 Walkenhorst took an amazing overall victory in the biggest GT3 race of the year- the Spa 24 hours. This victory really helped their relationship with BMW and their recent Intercontinental GT successes, winning in 2020 in Indianapolis and Kyalami, also securing the Driver’s Championship, has further strengthened the partnership between the team and BMW.

Walkenhorst have gone from strength to strength as a factory supported BMW team and in 2021 we were delighted to have one of the new BMW M2 CS cars in which we took various class podiums and fastest laps.

The structure of the team is excellent, the Purple Dot car has a full time engineer, and two technicians maintaining each car during the events. Walkenhorst also have an overall team manager overseeing all their cars.

Truly a winning team.

The NLS

Newly renamed the NLS and with all its races on the legendary Nordschleife, the series previously known as VLN has gained incredible momentum worldwide over the past 7-8 years.

Germany’s most successful motorsport series has featured a wide range of cars and exciting races, since 1977.

Today 28 classes and over 200 cars regularly compete for class rankings and of course the overall victory.

The long-distance race format demands the ultimate concentration from both the drivers and teams.

Four to six hours, man and machine are forced to perform at their best.

The massive publicity created by the 24 hour event, with its 350,000 spectators has lead to the 9 round NLS series becoming arguably the most important GT series for most of the major manufacturers.

With more genuine paid drivers than any other series, the NLS provides an incredible platform for drivers who wish to develop a professional career.
